Is FSD Supervised worth it in 2026?
August 13, 2026
FSD Supervised is still not autonomous. For an attentive driver, a month-to-month subscription can be worth a trial. HW3 and HW4 are not running the same software.
The short answer
Yes, as a cancellable month, if you will actually supervise it. No, if you want a car that drives while you look at your phone. The product name is Full Self-Driving (Supervised). Tesla’s own notes say it does not make the vehicle autonomous. That has not changed in 2026.
What you get right now
As of August 13, 2026, Hardware 4 vehicles are on FSD 14.3.7 (firmware 2026.21.5, then 2026.21.6). Hardware 3 Model 3 and Model Y are getting FSD 14.1 Lite on 2026.21.6. Lite is Tesla’s distilled HW4 v14 stack for the older computer. It is not the same build. If you are shopping FSD because a YouTube HW4 clip looked smooth, check your hardware first. What it costs
Tesla sells FSD Supervised as a monthly subscription. Tesla’s support page is the source of record: Tesla FSD subscriptions
In January 2026, Tesla’s US configurator and Elon Musk’s public comments put that subscription at $99 a month. Musk said the price can rise as capabilities improve. Confirm the current rate in the Tesla app before you pay. If you already bought FSD outright, that purchase stays with the car. We are not linking a Tesla referral.
Who it is for
Worth a month if you commute on mapped roads, will keep your eyes on the drive, and will cancel after a trip or a trial if it nags you. Skip it, or wait, if you need unsupervised capability, if you will treat it like a robotaxi, or if you are on HW3 and expected HW4 14.3.7 behavior. A 30-day trial, when Tesla offers one, is the cheapest way to find out.
Ownership extras that are not FSD: Model Y 2020–2024 all-weather floor mats and a foldable MagSafe phone mount for the screen. Neither is required to try the monthly subscription.
