FSD 14.1 Lite for HW3, explained

Same firmware package, different FSD branch

On August 9, 2026, Tesla’s firmware 2026.21.6 carried two FSD (Supervised) stories at once. Hardware 4 vehicles stayed on the 14.3.7 line. Hardware 3 Model 3 and Model Y received FSD 14.1 Lite. Official notes for both live on NotATeslaApp’s 2026.21.6 release notes. The version string on the car matters less than which computer is inside it.

What Tesla’s Lite notes say

Tesla’s Lite bullets describe distillation: the intelligence from HW4 V14 was distilled into HW3 so HW3 can learn how to handle scenarios using HW4 V14 as a guide. Tesla says that process unlocks improvements made to HW4, including Reinforcement Learning (RL) and offline models, for HW3. Those are Tesla’s words. Distillation is not the same claim as “HW3 now runs HW4 14.3.7.”

Tesla also lists broader proactive and reactive responsiveness across navigation handling, merges and forks, pedestrian interactions, traffic lights, and vehicle cut-ins; more comfort in nominal scenarios through fewer false slowdowns, smoother steering, and more consistent lane centering; parking, unparking, and reversing capabilities; Arrival Options for Parking Lot, Street, or Driveway; and Speed Profiles available at all times for driving-style preference.

UI and controls that shipped with the HW3 package

On the same firmware path for HW3, Tesla documented Start Self-Driving from Park when the driver is seated, buckled, and the camera is clear, with Brake Confirm; Arrival Options including Parking Lot, Street, Driveway, and Pull Over; Speed Profiles including SLOTH, described as more conservative than CHILL; and UI to adjust Speed Profile and Arrival Options from the visualization. Read those as product controls on the Lite branch, not as proof that Lite includes every mid-cycle HW4 summon feature from 14.3.2–14.3.4.

What NotATeslaApp added as commentary

NotATeslaApp’s overview for 2026.21.6 notes that the update includes FSD v14.1 Lite, that FSD notes remain the same, and that the release likely focuses on bug fixes such as reversing issues and potential overheating issues, while also including FSD v14.3.7 for HW4. Attribute that framing to NATA commentary. It is not an extra Tesla changelog bullet we are promoting as official.

What Lite is not

Lite is not 14.3.7. Tesla’s Lite notes do not claim the April 14.3 MLIR compiler rewrite or Tesla’s ~20% reaction-time figure from the HW4 14.3 flagship. They also do not list the unified Actually Smart Summon / FSD / Robotaxi model story, ASS at 8 mph, or Cybertruck summon as Lite features. If a YouTube clip shows HW4 14.3.x behavior, do not assume your HW3 car matches it after 2026.21.6.

FSD (Supervised) on Lite still does not make the vehicle autonomous. The driver must stay attentive and ready to take over. That disclaimer is the same on HW3 and HW4.

How owners should use recordings

HW3 owners checking how Lite handles merges, lights, and parking will lean on Dashcam and Sentry clips the same way HW4 owners do. A 128GB Tesla Dashcam / Sentry USB is the usual way to keep those recordings when you compare drives after the update.

Bottom line

14.1 Lite is Tesla’s distilled HW4 v14 path for HW3 Model 3 and Model Y on 2026.21.6: RL/offline-model language via distillation, comfort and responsiveness claims, parking/unparking/reversing, Arrival Options, and always-on Speed Profiles including SLOTH.
