What changed in FSD 14.3

April 07, 2026

FSD (Supervised) 14.3 on firmware 2026.2.9.6 (April 7, 2026) brought Tesla’s RL training upgrade, vision-encoder refresh, and MLIR compiler rewrite to HW4. Here is what the official notes actually say.

The April 7 step-change

On April 7, 2026, Tesla began rolling FSD (Supervised) 14.3 to Hardware 4 vehicles on firmware 2026.2.9.6. Coverage from TeslaNorth matched the same three bullets that appeared in the vehicle notes. That is the flagship build for the v14.3 line. Later point releases kept the same stack and added summon, parking, and reliability work; they did not rewrite these three claims.

We track the build on fsdupdate.com. FSD Update is independent and not affiliated with Tesla, Inc.

What Tesla published

Tesla’s notes for 2026.2.9.6, as published on NotATeslaApp, list three items. We are not inventing extras.

First, Tesla upgraded the Reinforcement Learning (RL) stage of training the FSD neural network. Tesla says that change improved a wide variety of driving scenarios. That is a training-pipeline claim, not a checklist of specific intersections or cities. Owners should read it as “the model was trained differently,” not as a guarantee that every hard merge on your commute is fixed.

Second, Tesla upgraded the neural network vision encoder. The notes credit better understanding in rare and low-visibility scenarios, stronger 3D geometry understanding, and expanded traffic-sign understanding. Again, those are Tesla’s words. They describe how the stack perceives the world; they do not claim unsupervised driving.

Third, Tesla rewrote the AI compiler and runtime from the ground up with MLIR. Tesla says that rewrite produced about 20% faster reaction time and improved model iteration speed. The 20% figure is Tesla’s claim. We have not independently verified reaction-time measurements across fleets or routes. Treat it as the company’s published number, not a third-party bench result.

Why this mattered more than a point release

The early-2026 14.2 wrap was mostly polish on an existing 14.2.2 line: arrival options, emergency-vehicle handling, debris offsetting, and similar owner-facing features. 14.3’s published notes are different in kind. They talk about how the network is trained, how vision is encoded, and how the model is compiled and run on the car. That is why we treat April 7 as the step-change and later 14.3.x builds as mid-cycle feature work on that stack.

The useful split: 14.3 introduced the RL / vision-encoder / MLIR claims; 14.3.2 through 14.3.4 layered summon unification, intervention feedback, streaks, and parking UI; 14.3.7 kept the same note stack while the August rollout and HW3 Lite branch became the news.

What this does not mean

FSD (Supervised) still does not make the vehicle autonomous. Tesla’s own product framing requires an attentive driver who is ready to take over. Nothing in the 14.3 RL, vision, or MLIR bullets changes that. Hardware 3 owners did not receive this 14.3 stack in April; their later path is the separate 14.1 Lite branch, which is not identical to HW4 14.3.7. For the hardware split, see HW3 vs HW4 FSD in 2026.

Community clips and owner forums will argue about brake stabs, lane choice, and “sentience.” Label those as owner reports. They are not Tesla release notes.

How to read the tracker after 14.3

On fsdupdate.com, treat firmware 2026.2.9.6 as the 14.3 flagship marker, then follow 14.3.x cards for summon and parking. Do not assume every bump rewrites the official FSD notes—the pattern we documented for 14.3.7.

If you are comparing versions on the road with Dashcam and Sentry, a 128GB Tesla Dashcam / Sentry USB is the usual owner setup for saving clips side by side.

Bottom line

14.3 on April 7, 2026 is the HW4 training-and-runtime milestone: RL stage upgrade, vision-encoder upgrade, and Tesla’s MLIR rewrite with a claimed ~20% reaction-time improvement. Use the mid-cycle post for summon and parking, and the 14.3.7 recap for the August rollout. Stay attentive; it is still FSD (Supervised).
