Tesla Cybercab Austin sweepstakes and Nevada’s 10-car Robotaxi permit

Tesla confirmed an Austin Cybercab event, not a public launch date

Tesla’s official page is the primary source. The title is “Cybercab Launch Event | Tesla Events,” at tesla.com/event/cybercab-event-sweepstakes. Tesla names the event “Cybercab Launch Event” and the contest “The Robotaxi Sweepstakes.” The overview on that page says: “We're celebrating the launch of our Cybercab robotaxi with an exclusive event in Austin—and you could be there.” That is Tesla’s marketing line. The page does not say Cybercab is publicly available or purchasable, and it gives no public launch or delivery date.

Tesla places the event in Austin, TX. The footer lists Tesla Austin, 1 Tesla Road, Austin, Texas 78725. The timetable on the page is “Aug 17 – 26, 2026.” Tesla’s rules say Tesla reserves the right to cancel or change the time, date or place of the event. There is still no single event date.

The promotion period is 7:37 PM CT August 17, 2026 through 11:59 PM CT August 23, 2026. Eligible legal permanent residents in the 50 U.S. states and D.C., at the age of majority, get one entry per completed Robotaxi ride in that window. Canceled rides do not count. Tesla also published a mail-in path. The page says no purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win. Five winners are selected and emailed August 25, 2026. The prize is the right to attend the event. Transportation is the winner’s expense. Event items are valued at $25.

Tesla’s page has no FSD or supervision language. NotATeslaApp and Teslarati later covered the same official page. That is a real, sourced Tesla announcement. It is not the same thing as Cybercab being open to the public.

What Tesla has not confirmed

Reuters, citing The Information on August 17, reported that Tesla told employees it wants a public Austin Cybercab start as soon as this month: employee rides on public roads first, then fold the cars into the existing Austin Robotaxi service a few days later. Tesla did not comment to Reuters. Treat that timeline as unconfirmed until Tesla or a rider-facing launch actually happens.

Separately, The Verge reported that Austin spokesperson Brad Cesak confirmed recent first-responder training on how to move the vehicles in an emergency. Reuters also said Tesla has been testing production Cybercabs on public roads since June. Those are preparations. They are not a public Cybercab service.

Tesla’s page says winners are emailed August 25. The event itself is still undated. Hold any “Cybercab is in the Austin fleet” claim until that actually happens.

Nevada approved 10 Robotaxis, not 5,000

The same week, public records and the Las Vegas Review-Journal showed Nevada Transportation Authority AVNC Permit 002 (docket 26-05015, Tesla Robotaxi, LLC) is active after a July 27 order. Tesla asked for up to 5,000 vehicles in Clark County. The NTA capped the start at 10.

The permit is not a Vegas launch. Conditions reported from the order and the Review-Journal include a regulator-approved geofence (press describes a Strip corridor), a 45 mph cap, no airport pickups or drop-offs within a quarter mile of Harry Reid International without extra Clark County aviation approval, visible “Robotaxi” markings, rider notice, “appropriate human supervision,” and incident reporting within five business days. Tesla did not comment to the Review-Journal. Electrek’s August 17 writeup matches those permit limits.

A permit with supervision language is not unsupervised consumer FSD, and it is not proof Cybercab is the vehicle Nevada authorized.

This is still not autonomous consumer FSD

Consumer FSD (Supervised) has not moved since the August 9–13 recaps. Hardware 4 is still on 14.3.7. Hardware 3 Model 3/Y is still on 14.1 Lite. Both stay supervised. The driver has to stay attentive and be ready to take over. Robotaxi is a separate, permitted service. A Cybercab event invite and a 10-car Nevada permit do not change that.
