What changed in FSD 14.2 Lite (HW3)

Same firmware, HW3 Lite path

Firmware 2026.27.6 landed September 8, 2026 with two FSD (Supervised) stories, depending on hardware. Hardware 4 cars on that build are on FSD 14.3.9, including Automatic Collision Evasion — covered in What changed in FSD 14.3.9. Hardware 3 Model 3 and Model Y on the same firmware get FSD 14.2 Lite. The live card is FSD 14.2 Lite.

This post is the HW3 Lite path only. It is not ACE, and it is not a claim that HW3 now runs full HW4 14.3.9.

HW4 V14 distilled into HW3

The useful lead is distillation. Tesla’s first Lite bullet is the same idea owners saw on earlier Lite builds: intelligence from HW4 V14 is distilled into HW3 so HW3 can learn how to handle scenarios using HW4 V14 as a guide, unlocking HW4 improvements including Reinforcement Learning (RL) and offline models for HW3.

Official notes on the 14.2 Lite card read like the prior 14.1 Lite list. We are not pretending a brand-new feature stack. The distinct ship is 14.2 Lite on firmware 2026.27.6 for HW3 Model 3/Y.

What the six release notes say

From the live 14.2 Lite version card, Tesla’s notes are:

1. Distilled the intelligence from HW4 V14 into HW3. This allows HW3 to directly learn how to handle scenarios using HW4 V14 as a guide. This process unlocks the improvements that have been made to HW4 including Reinforcement Learning (RL) and offline models for HW3.
2. Improved both proactive and reactive responsiveness across a wide variety of categories including navigation handling, merges and forks, pedestrian interactions, traffic lights, and vehicle cut-in scenarios.
3. Improved general comfort in nominal scenarios through fewer false slowdowns, smoother steering and more consistent lane centering.
4. Introduced parking, unparking, and reversing capabilities.
5. Added Arrival Options for you to select where FSD should pull over or park: in a Parking Lot, on the Street, in a Driveway.
6. Speed Profiles are now available at all times, to further customize driving style preference.

What this is not

14.2 Lite is not unsupervised consumer FSD. It is not a Robotaxi launch. It does not mean HW3 now has Automatic Collision Evasion or the rest of the HW4 14.3.9 stack.
